Welcome Cruisers

The site of the old salmon cannery at Hoonah has been transformed into one of the most unique and special destinations available to Alaskan cruisers. The old cannery has been restored and a working line is available for visitors to watch the canning process as it was in the salmon heyday. A magnificent, new cultural center, seafood restaurants, shopping complex and nature trail system have been added to the original cannery buildings. Numerous ship and shore activities are available affording visitors immediate access to the rich waters of Icy Strait and the beautiful Tongass National Forest on Chichagof Island.

The city of Hoonah is located just over a mile from the port and welcomes all of the visitors to come and explore the local shops and attractions.  There are excellent opportunities to see eagles and on occasion, whales and other sealife from the shoreline along the road between the port and town. On good weather days, it is a beautiful walk.

The photos above were taken from the water immediately in front of the cruise ship port.

Beginning in May of 2004, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruise lines began making Hoonah one of their ports of call in the summers since Holland America and Princess have also added port calls. While there are many activities to choose from through the cruise company, we offer small group trips that take you away from the crowd and afford you the opportunity to experience Alaska in a much more personal manner.

If you will be cruising to Alaska this summer and would like to try an excursion with some of the lifetime local residents, give us a call or email and we will help you plan a rewarding day in port.

The following excursions are offered individually or in combination as part of a personalized itinerary.

Whale Watching

 Salmon Fishing

 Wildlife Photography

 Halibut Fishing

Full or half day trips originate from the harbor in Hoonah, a beautiful little fishing community located on the north end of Chichagof Island about 40 air miles west of Juneau.
